11th Doctor Costume – Part 3

April 20, 2010

After splitting up the costume I decided to again separate the items up in to what I thought the chance was that I would actually be able to get the item.

Thanks to some initial searching I came across the following post from a dedicated cosplayer (who turned out to be someone I saw at Time Quest 2).  I have seen his costumes of 4 – 8 and trust me they are good.

Shaking my fist at the bad luck *Barrowman* I realised this wasn’t going to as easy as I thought, especially as all the clothes that were once easy to get, were now out of season.  Nevertheless, I plodded on determined to take up the full challenge of this project.

Looking at this list of items from the link (thanks again for all the spotting people have done) I re-arranged my list and decided to concentrate on the hard to obtain ones first, thinking that if I couldn’t get the more difficult items then there was little point going for it at all.  Perfectionist!

Shirt - I felt this was the most unusual part of the costume and also the item that would potentially require the most work to get it right.  The fact it was a designer item that was sold last season meant it would be even harder to find than normal.

Boots - These like the shirt would again be another once easily obtainable item, now gone from the market.  There were plenty of alternatives on offer but getting the real thing was going to be tough.

Jacket - Another integral part of the costume that had to be right.  There is a  lot of tweed around but would finding a match be that easy?

Jeans - Although the consensus leant towards a particular type and model of jeans.  I worked on the principle that there were again plenty of alternatives for these that look just as good.  But would aim for the correct ones first.

Watch - Important and a little different but I kept this down the list as it wasn’t a key part of the main look of the costume.

Bow Tie and Braces – These I thought would be the easiest to get hold of as there are sure to be plenty of these around.

So on March 22nd 2010, I began my search!

11th Doctor Costume – Part 2

April 9, 2010

Now that I have decided on creating an 11th Doctor costume, it was now a case of looking at it in detail and splitting it into sections.

I separated the costume up as follows -

Jacket

Shirt

Jeans

Boots

Bow Tie and Braces

Watch

Pretty easy I know.  The hard part would be actually trying to source some of this stuff.  So for my next part I will explain how I went about this daunting task!

11th Doctor Costume – Part 1

April 7, 2010

At Time Quest I saw some really good fan made Doctor costumes on show and got talking to some of the people who had made them.  This got me thinking and I decided I was going to take up the challenge and enter the world of cosplay by creating my own Doctor costume.

Looking at some of the costumes of the past Doctors it became apparent that some of them required a lot of work to get them right.  I am a perfectionist and no seamstress, so I decided to go for what was achievable – bye bye 6th Doctor’s jacket.

It really came down to a top three of the 9th, 10th or 11th Doctor’s outfit.  The 9th I discarded first, a little dull for me.  The 10th was next as this has been done so many times before and I wanted to do a little different.  So this left number 11, fitting really seeing as he is all new plus I haven’t seen many people wearing it yet.

Having decided, it was just a matter of working out how to achieve it given my self-imposed deadline of wearing it at Collectormania May 28th 2010.
